Here are 2 swings by Sammy Sosa. The top one is his first HR in the MLB. The bottom is later on in his career. I'm not here to debate steroids, I just want to you to apprieciate the adjustments that he made. Adjustments he could only make by getting stronger!
Look at his position when his elbow gets to the slot. Both of these pitches are middle in yet the top frame he is clearly committing his front shoulder and hands early loosing connection. The bottom frame he has much better seperation and connection
On this frame at contact notice his back hip. It is not over committed. He put on the breaks for his lower half excelerating the barrel. Much more power and force overall in the bottom swing. That's why he hit so many HR's
Sammy was an elite athlete. He made adjustments that helped him be a much better hitter. Did he take steroids? Yes. Would he have hit a bunch of HR's if he got stronger without steroids and made these adjustments? Yes
Here is my take on the "steroid era". The players growing up were told by just about everyone not to lift weights for baseball. They then got to the bigs and realized that was a bunch of BS so they got big and strong as fast as they could and we cheered for them as they hit HR's
So suppliments and steroids were the way. Today there are huge growths in the knowledge of nutrition and weight training. Baseball players have easy access to it. Every player can get stronger and be able to make adjustments like Sammy.
Moral of this rant. No matter the time of the year start now. Find a good trainer with a nutritional program coordinated
with a workout and get to work. I recommend. @drjoshheenan and @smartrehab1 đź’Ş
