A few @Giants draft thoughts as we are now less than 60 hours from (apologies in advance) D-Day (THREAD) #GiantsChat:
My top preference, in a perfect world, would be to trade down. Considering Dave Gettleman has never traded down once as a GM, I do not expect this to happen. I think the most likely trade would be with the @Chargers at 6. It would be small enough to get an extra 3 but not crazy.
For the record: If the @Giants can& #39;t/won& #39;t trade down from #4 overall, I would prefer if they took Isaiah Simmons over one of the 4 OTs (Wirfs/Thomas/Becton/Wills). The Giants need a defensive playmaker. Their Defense has been bottom 8 the last 3 years. Simmons would inject life.
That being said, there is a lot of smoke around the idea the @Giants are targeting Jedrick Wills. I understand why they are targeting the position and even Wills as a prospect. However, I feel it is more advantageous to draft Simmons & get an OL at 36 (whether that& #39;s an OT or C).
If the @Giants do draft Wills or another OT at 4 or 6 or wherever their first pick is, hopefully they address Defense at the back end of R1 or at 36. Specifically, I hope they get a pass rusher with that pick, whether it be YGM, Epenesa or Baun.
I cannot stress this enough: the @Giants NEED to improve their pass rush in this draft. I do not care how that gets accomplished. It needs to happen. The secondary is young & developing outside of Bradberry. They need a pass rush to help aid their development going into 2021.
Quick aside: there is a level of sense (albeit minimal) to the report that the @49ers are a potential trade partner for Engram. The larger overall point there is that Engram probably needs to transition to WR for the sake of his overall health and because he, well, cannot block.
To wrap things up, I do wanna address the Herbert report from @RapSheet quickly. There is a 95% chance that is a smokescreen. Like, even an idiot can see that. But there is a level of sense to it if you look back at the last year or so.
A few facts:
Dave Gettleman has admitted that Pat Shurmur was the primary advocate for the @Giants drafting Daniel Jones;
There were reports that DG was high on Herbert heading into the 2019 draft before he decided not to declare;
Joe Judge has not mentioned DJ by name at all.
In the event the Giants, for some reason, were to draft Herbert, Jones would immediately hit the market. But he would genuinely fetch a decent package of picks were he to be traded. At least two 1s and some other picks. There& #39;s a level of sense and creativity to that bold a move.
That being said, it& #39;s clear to a lot of @Giants fans that Daniel Jones is a legitimate starter in the NFL. So to trade what you know you have at the most important position in football for another prospect and a package full of picks would be, well, crazy. But good smokescreen!
Anyway, I& #39;m sorry for the rambling & probably incoherent thoughts in this thread about something so insignificant as the NFL at a time like this. To whoever reads this, I thank you for your time & I hope you and your family are all staying safe and that you continue to do so. FIN
