This thread by a North Korea watcher, which I will presume is both accurate and insightful, is a perfect distillation of how we analyze government information (including of presumptive democracies): 1/ https://twitter.com/junghpak1/status/1252556281497505797
We don’t know if what a leak says is accurate. 2/
Denial isn’t proof of anything but denial; the fact that government watchers downplay a leak is neither confirming or disconfirming the leak, because no one knows! 3/
Normalcy doesn’t necessarily mean normalcy because it could be fake normalcy. 4/
Fake normalcy is itself normal! 5/
We shouldn't speculate about what the leak means, but we can analyze what the leaks says! 6/
We should remind ourselves that fake normalcy is itself evidence that normal isn’t normal! Because actually, the state isn’t what it purports to be. 7/
Who knows what will come next? Maybe I do! Check back later for more. 8/
Again: No disrespect intended. Just stunning how much this thread about NK resembles analysis of anonymous leaks from the Trump WH or leaks from national security agencies under any president.
