Dear Maldivian landlords, I am a Maldivian currently residing in Srilanka. I pay around 470 dollars for my apartment and calles my landlord and asked him if he could ease up on the rent as this pandemic had hit us middle class real hard. He asked how much we can pay?
We told him that we will not able to pay 470 and we might have to move out. He said that we will not be evicted and even if the rent gets late he will not call us as he completely understands the situation and want to help us in this crisis.
We have been on lockdown for over a month now and he checks on us every now and then and asked me to tell him if I needed anything. My husband called him tonight to update him on why rent is getting delayed and he said not to talk about rent and asked him if we were okay.
He informed my husband that he had even asked the security to help me as I live alone with children. After speaking to my husband he called me and asked if we were managing well and told me not to worry about rent. This is humanity. And I had just moved in here 2mnths ago
P.s. this thread is to share my experience in a foreign land where I got treated so kindly while landlords back in my home are evicting tenants and throwing families on the road for not being able to pay rent due to losing their jobs because of this pandemic.
