contrary to popular belief, (aka stan twitter) buddhism, like most religions, does not and has never belonged to any single country
you can acknowledge facts like how buddhism obviously holds cultural & spiritual value for certain ethnic groups compared to others. you can rightfully say that religions like these are often racialised.
you can say that buddhism originated in the indian subcontinent and therefore closely tied with india and indian culture on all levels. you can say all these things because they form the basis of buddhism as a religion and a way of life. these are irrefutable facts.
what you are not about to say is that buddhism belongs solely to india, that only south asian people have a right to practice it, or ignore centuries of buddhist history across east and southeast asia that have also heavily defined these cultures.
you cannot pick and choose pieces of history and culture that are convenient for you at the time. it does a huge disservice to so many people who have grown up with buddhism as a formative part of their lives.
TL;DR for the majority of stans that couldn't bother to read what i wrote: you can keep saying "buddhism is an indian religion". this is the internet & no one can stop you. but know you're being deliberately obtuse, ahistorical and a fucking dickhead above all. i don't trust you.
also, for the record, i do not condone what the boys did. i get that mudras might be prevalent in korean culture, but if the head movements & leg pose are really not from korean culture, then that's racist as hell. this thread is purely +
directed at the droves of people who tripped over themselves in their haste to deny buddhism exists outside of the subcontinent. if you were an actual buddhist you'd know otherwise. it's embarrassingly obvious that all these self-described experts on buddhism don't practise it.
