I still don’t even quite know what people think would be done with ‘tests’, why that’s linked in their minds with whether government can end shutdowns

Is the answer ‘test literally everyone and forcibly-quarantine the positives till they resolve’? Fine, but then your bottleneck isn’t the test part it’s the quarantine part. Do we have a *quarantine* system ready? Why aren’t celebrities tweeting ‘quarantine quarantine quarantine’

The question then comes to minds, okay, even if we don’t have a quadrillion tests, don’t we have ‘enough’ tests to do a ‘good enough’ job of whatever you want done with them? If not, how many are needed?

But that means answering my original question, what do you wanna *do*

People blithely mouth phrases like ‘test and trace’

Ohhhh....kay

I guess I can...imagine a system of something like that. Who does it? Who implements it? Where? How? Who gets ‘tested’ and when and how, how do they know and where do they go? Then when you ‘trace’, what happens?

Maybe I’m dumb but this all just comes across like the missing phase 2 of the underpants plan from South Park

And yet I feel like I’m being told, often, we ‘can’t reopen’ until such a thing - an imaginary system, of which I see no sign, anywhere, and I can barely even imagine government even being capable of implementing - Is Set Up

no offense but my brain just parses that as a ‘never’

What am I meant to imagine being Set Up

Do I first ‘get tested’ in the a.m. every day before to work? Weekly? at the local Testing Center? Where’s that, will I get a mailer telling me where mine is? What are its hours? Who’s been hired to staff the place? How long till results?

If I get a negative I get issued a work pass, right? Who’s been contracted to print out the passes? Who’s checking them, train conductors and toll collectors and bus drivers? What happens to no-pass-holders, biohazard squad comes get em? Who’s been hired to the squads?

And what about the ‘tracing’. One week I come back positive, so you gotta ‘trace’ my ‘contacts’. You use my cellphone. Turns out I a) rode in subway cars b) ate in McDonalds c) worked with 1,437 distinct individuals since my last negative.

They’re all quarantined 2 weeks now?

How does any of this work

What sign or reason is there for a non-insane person to think any of this is happening, will happen, or even can happen, in finite time

Yet your big issue is still ‘we don’t have enough tests’? C’mon man
