Just remembered the time I decided to make limoncello at home after we spent 10 days in Italy. Found a recipe and let the lemons infuse in vodka for 7 weeks, just like the recipe said.

It was bitterly undrinkable, even with simple syrup. Because the recipe said 7 DAYS not weeks
I don't have many cooking/baking fails, but when I do, they're catastrophes.
Like this coffee cake I tried to make with baker’s cinnamon.
The first time I ever made beer-can chicken on the grill, I bought a stand for it. The stand made the chicken so tall that it touched the lid when it was shut. Being obstinate, I decided that wouldn't be a problem and went ahead with it.
15 minutes later, I look out the window and see flames shooting 5 feet up out the back of the grill and the sides of the lid. Open it up and the chicken is ENGULFED in a fireball.

Used the fire extinguisher and learned a lesson that day.
