So, here's a short thread on how BBC manages to deceive DMS thus enabling continuation of the TV tax.

Now, read this comment by a reviewer, Flavio:
Flavio wonders what BBC feedback/ratings might look like without being moderated by the BBC itself.

Because, according to the BBC the British public adores them and trusts them implicitly, right?

At least that's what they tell the Dept for Media, Culture and Sport.
Flavio is right to flag this anomaly up: BBC "research" always presents a hugely flattering picture of itself, yet review sites like Trust Pilot invariably present a totally different reality.

BBC is rated "bad" by Trust Pilot. Take a look at the comments - not a pretty picture
How does BBC manage to hoodwink @DCMS so easily?
In a word: money. Your money.
By simply paying £100k to a company like Ipsos MORI to produce the 'correct' results which it then presents to ministers who rather than say 'no' realise it's much easier to acquiesce to BBC demands.
Using their knowledge of polling + demographics ipsos MORI ask a loaded Q in those areas which it can predict, with a high degree of certainty, will be sympathetic to BBC agenda i.e. affluent, liberal, middle-class, pro-EU etc. It's a science, not an art - polling that is.
Let's look at an example. Recall the BBC pay scandal in 2017 which revealed the huge, inflated salaries BBC pays its "talent?" You probably recall the public outrage when it was revealed that Lineker "earns" £2.2 million?
BBC was desperate to invert reality, to trick DCMS, so...
Guess who they called?
Get that? According to the BBC a whopping 80% of the UK support massive multi-million pound BBC salaries . . . Did they ask you? Me neither.
So who exactly did they ask?
More to the point WHO did the asking?
That little detail is hidden away in the small print . . .
Right first time. The BBC itself paid for this extraordinary research . . . by . . . Ipsos MORI.
Naturally, they weren't too keen to reveal this rather vital info, but it's there if you look very, very closely > > >
EIGHTY PER CENT of Brits support multi-million pound BBC salaries according to research commissioned by . . . the BBC.

That's HUGE.
Having paid Ipsos Mori to obtain the "correct" result they can present this now as fact. The BBC Director general can now peddle the myth as and when required:

And that, ladies and gents, is how the BBC tricks the @DCMS and the wider public at large into believing its myths.

Trust Pilot and independent polls not financed by BBC cash show a totally different reality.

End.
