[1/9] TODAY frontline organisations and lawyers gave evidence to @CommonsHomeAffs on impact of #Covid-19 on immigration, asylum and detention systems.
@JanetDaby asked if refugees and migrants were being included in the UK govt’s response to Covid-19 as recommended by @WHO.
@JanetDaby asked if refugees and migrants were being included in the UK govt’s response to Covid-19 as recommended by @WHO.
[2/9] @JCWI_UK reported cases where migrant patients are not going forward to the NHS to get Covid-19 care because:
the hostile environment created a generalised culture of scaring people from accessing #NHS services even when they are entitled to NHS care.

[3/9]
New regulations make #COVIDー19 testing & treatment free for everyone, but most NHS staff and migrant patients don't know about this exception.

[4/9] @ILPAimmigration pointed out that the Covid-19 charging exemption does not cover pre-existing conditions, so people with existing health problems are deterred from accessing NHS care
[5/9] @refugeecouncil explained that people seeking asylum are put in a situation where it’s almost impossible to follow social distancing guidance due to overcrowded accommodation.

[6/9] And asylum seekers often don't get healthcare because they don’t think they are entitled to the NHS and those without fixed address can't register with a GP.

[7/9] A recurring theme throughout the hearing: people in asylum system and detention centres and migrant communities are not getting the @PHE_uk Covid-19 advice.

[8/9] The overarching message: #NHS charging regulations must be suspended to protect public health.
Last week @TheBMA, @FPHHealth @RCPLondon @RCObsGyn @RCPCHtweets @RCollEM @MidwivesRCM and 60 MPs called on @DHSC to suspend the regulations
