A thread about our 19/20 season.
Before I start I have to say, we’re all gutted at how the season ended and if we had it our way, this ISNT how we’d have got promoted, I also want to say not to take this too seriously, just something I wanted to do to look at our season before it got cut short. ENJOY.
I’ll mainly be looking at league games but will throw some cup games in that I think are worth mentioning (there’s a few)
GW1- First game of the season, 5-2 win against eventual second place Eaton Socon, @AnthonyLane1010 grabbed a hat trick, picking up where he left off.
GW2- 3-0 win @ home vs St ives, @Chrisoconnor280 first clean sheet, @_georgefrench picked up a brace (baller)
GW4- 1-0 loss @ home to Thaxted, this is the first time in over a season Bass have failed to score. Good side this lot hopefully they also get promoted.
GW5- 4-1 win @ home Vs Isleham, @finn_chapman picked up 2 goals, @AnthonyLane1010 got sent off despite being on the pitch less than 5 minutes.
GW6- 1-1 draw with CUP away from home, no excuses here, we weren’t clinical enough on the day, Sam hills getting our goal late in the game to earn a point.
GW7- Maybe one of our worst days all season, injuries and suspensions all over the place, 3-2 loss at home to Newmarket. @jakebooth94 scored twice to open his account for the season.
GW8- Back to winning ways with a 4-2 win @ home to Fordham. @jakebooth94 grabbed himself a hat-trick to make it 5 goals in 2 games.
GW9- Cup game away vs St ives. The first one many Bass comebacks this year, 2-0 down early in the second half but ended up eventual 3-2 winners after a halfway line own goal from St ives. We also witnessed the infamous ‘take me off see if it gets better’ this game.
GW10- Our biggest win this season, 6-0 winners at home to Wisbech, 6 different scorers, a solid day at the office.
Despite this win the general consensus was that we hadn’t got going yet this season and performances had been subpar. This was proven in GW11 and 12, two losses in a row, we weren’t good enough in either fixture.
GW13- Gaffer still describes this as the ‘turning point’.
After 2 consecutive losses we faced Kershaw Prem opposition in Comberton, @marc125wl @pemberton_ollie and @JoeParrish10 dominated the midfield. @AnthonyLane1010 grabbed 2 and we run out eventual winners on penalties.
After what was one of our best performances of the season the week before, we then picked up a 1-0 win away at Fordham, again not a great performance, but we ground out the win, something we’d do many times this season.
GW14- Back in the league @ home to Press. 4-2 down in the 80th minute it looked as if after 3 attempts we just weren’t gonna beat this lot this season. @AnthonyLane1010 assisted @Ingreyman2 to make it 4-4. The favour was returned 2 minutes later as Laney grabbed a later winner.
5-4 winners, a massive 3 points and finally a win against press who had held us twice already this season. For me this is where the attitude changed, we knew regardless of circumstance we could still get results, a massive game.
GW15- away @ Isleham, 3-0 winners, clean sheet, massive 3 points and @TifferPayne grabbed his second goal of the season, doubling his Bass tally.
GW16- 3rd fixture against Fordham this year, 3rd win. @finn_chapman grabbed a goal in what was his last game this season, excited to have this lad back in the fold next season.
GW17- Another cup game against Kershaw Prem opposition. 2-2 after 90 minutes. Another shoutout. At 4-4 @RyanMorgan2307 missed, Foxton score and we’re out, @Chrisoconnor280 saves and we go on to win 9-8 after 10 penalties each.
GW18- Away at wisbech, when we eventually got there we had all of 10 minutes to warm up. 0-0 at half time with Wisbech defending resiliently, we eventually broke them down and went home with a 2-0 win. We met at the hoops at 11, we got back at 8 (ish), we love a coach journey
GW19- A cup game @ home vs Senior A opposition Milton. 20 minutes in @Plummie4 saw red. A mountain to climb. Just before half time @AnthonyLane1010 won and scored a penalty, the only goal of the game where we ended up 1-0 winners, our third scalp this year.
GW20- @ home vs Lakenheath. 1-0 up at half time, a fiesty affair so far. 1-1 early in the second half. Despite being told not to say anything to the ref @RyanMorgan2307 ended up in the sin bin. 2-1 down until late when @AnthonyLane1010 scored a penalty to earn a point.
GW22- Another fixture vs a Kershaw Prem side. 1-0 down at half time after a Sam Hills own goal. We stayed in the game and @ingrey_mark1 got us a goal to take it to penalties. 3rd time unlucky as Over beat us on penalties to reach a cup final.
GW23- this is the one, this is the entire reason I’ve done this thread.
League game, away at Newmarket.
0-0 at half time, few chances between the sides, Newmarket had hit the woodwork, we’d had a certain goal saved off the line.
Early in the second half Newmarket took the lead, not the end of the world we’d come back from worse. Few minutes later @AnthonyLane1010 scored a worldie free kick. 1-1.
Again uncertain defending left us behind, Newmarket taking the lead for the 2nd time. Late in the game Newmarket centre half saw red for a challenge on @AnthonyLane1010 having already been booked for a challenge on @jakebooth94 in the first half.
