Everybody criticizes @JoeBiden's campaign. The critics, including at times me, all have something in common: we initially backed a candidate who lost the primary to @JoeBiden. Maybe we should rethink this pile on & instead think about what @teamjoe is getting right. https://twitter.com/1971genx/status/1252441737710039040
The number one thing former supporters of @PeteButtigieg @JulianCastro @amyklobuchar @KamalaHarris & @CoryBooker among others need to realize is that the campaign needs to be, and is being, true to who @JoeBiden is. He's a 77 year old elder statesman of the Party who has
Been in public office basically my entire life (I'm 40). He isn't hip, young or cool and never will be. Lame efforts to brand him like your favorite candidate aren't going to work, and in fact will hurt, because they'll seem phony and undermine his greatest strength: honesty.
What @TeamJoe did is create an environment where @JoeBiden can be comfortable while isolating & running a front porch campaign--and an environment that plays to his strengths--sit down interviews, which he has decades of experience in. Talking with people.
His podcast is basically a politician talking on the phone with friends and supporters. Us it what initially motivated you to back @PeteButtigieg or me to back @JulianCastro? No it isn't. And our candidates lost so we don't get to run this campaign.
But what @JoeBiden is doing is right for this particular moment. It contrasts so well with Trump, it shows people there is a different way of doing things. A better way. And it works--53 million earned video views in a month, $47 million raised, mostly from online donors,
Sweeping primary victories in state after state, a ten point lead on @realDonaldTrump in the polls. This is what a winning campaign looks like. A big problem with the resistance is everybody wants to be the hero, and all this whining about "it's not going how it should have;
This was supposed to go down a different way," doesn't really help the cause. @JoeBiden is winning the Presidential election. He might be losing Twitter, but I'm not really sure that matters as I think there might be more trollbots than voters here. And not only is
@joebiden winning, he's winning by wide enough margins to have coattails and bring a Democratic Senate along with him. Before we shoot ourselves in the foot & try to make @TeamJoe more like losing presidential campaigns, we should grasp that they're getting a lot right.
