Inspired by @steve_asbell I'm starting a thread on bits of songs that I love and could listen to over and over.
Everyone's being doing albums that inspired them - I'm gonna go micro instead!
Disclaimer: of course I adore the songs these bits are from - without the build up the bits wouldn't be so good. But I must admit I know exactly where to drop the needle/fast forward the tape/skip the CD/hit the play bar to get to them straight away
I'll probably be adding to this thread forever...but here goes!
The second half of Alec Eiffel by the Pixies (1:20)
The instrumental break of Perfect Way by Scritti Politti (2:34)
The first 16 seconds of I Learnt How To Pray by Squeeze
Everything from 2:40 on of Bowie's Lady Grinning Soul
The final minute of ACT's Snobbery and Decay
@JodiPhillis singing 'Give me the sacred voice' in her song The Change (3:30) https://jodiphillis.bandcamp.com/track/the-change
The last verse and chorus of The Clouds' Motherson (2:25)
The way Justin Trudeau says 'the things' in Speaking Moistly by Anonymotif
The verse of Neneh Cherry's Manchild
The instrumental break in Miracle Goodnight (2:23)
And while I'm on Black Tie White Noise, whatever sublime mystery is going on behind the chorus of Jump They Say
'Do you remember Rick Astley/he had a big fat hit it was ghastly' - Nick Lowe, All Men Are Liars (0:36)
The final rollick of Stevie by Lisa Mitchell, especially that piano chord at 3:06
The glorious spiral that follows 3:49 in East India Youth's End Result
If I'm honest, every perfect bit of I Say a Little Prayer, but the lead in and out of this fabulously extravagant version by the Larry Page Orchestra has a strange hold over me...
Ditto the way the Sergio Rafael Orchestra finish off Sunny (2:20). Those saxophones!
Hmm, my #loveofinstrumentalcovers really deserves its own thread...
Attempting to salvage some shred of credibility - the piano solo in In My Life, played here at true speed https://www.classicfm.com/discover-music/latest/in-my-life-george-martin-piano/
The bar room piano and Bowie's vocal at the end of Lou Reed's Satellite of Love
Those final falling chords of Sakamoto's Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence (4:13)
The whole Jools Holland piano solo on The The's Uncertain Smile (me and a million others) (3:27)
