For 5 years, I had validation issues. Thats why yall have seen me battle, go to radio stations freestyling, etc. trying to prove my status in the lyricist conversation. Although still left out, my peers have recognized what I can do.
Ive learned through creating Mickey MauSe and now Mau2e, there is no competition. This is my lane and I need to own that and not want to be validated by what others think and do.
Idk where that sense of need to be accepted came from. I guess maybe the pressures of the XXL Cover, Comparisons to my peers, being left out the convo, etc. idk but im glad Ive gotten to this point.
I hope these words help some people to know its really not about being compared to anyone. Its about carving your own lane and niche and making people love THAT about you.
Lupe last night told me on IG Live, that its currently its 2 or 3 people who rap better than me. From a bar/lyricist/concept standpoint. I was floored. But again, I had to say to myself, Im ok with being the loner with my style and content.
Mau2e has really invigorated me to think outside the box and be that artistic creative inspirational genius my supporters know me for. I love yall.
