Today rose at 5:30am, made porridge for my children, sat down at my desk at 6:30am so that I could leave it at 9:30am to homeschool my children, returned to it at 1pm (while feeling guilty for putting the kids in front of the tv) bought flowers, helped the kids write happy 1/ https://twitter.com/broadagenda5050/status/1252517680009134080
Birthday signs for my MIL, organised the family into the car so that we could stand 3m from her doorstep and sing happy birthday, returned home and to my desk, made dinner, did readers with my preppie, washed and hung three loads of laundry and drunk 3 glasses of wine.
What I know, is that this time is not affecting everyone equally. I ache for those who have no choice but to go out and work right now. My heart is heavy with the LinkedIn posts of old colleagues who’ve lost their job and are reaching out for work- something, anything...
I fear for those women who have been surviving domestic violence situations up until now- and may not survive this. I worry for the children who are home schooling without the protective factors of middle class incomes and homes full of books and safety.
And I acknowledge all the utterly middle class women like me who are safe & fortunate, who have it easy and should never forget it, who rail against the unfairness of doing 4 jobs & yet still turn up to every meeting like their male counterparts who only do 1. #wfh #womeninstem
