It’s the night for webinars! I’m now wearing my parent hat & about to listen in for advice from @eSafetyOffice on ‘Helping kids thrive online’. They’re running free webinars for parents on #DigitalSafety #OnlineSafety https://twitter.com/esafetyoffice/status/1249857156213608448
Tips suggested by @eSafetyOffice for parents of primary school aged kids: no tech in bedroom, not before homework, & not for a specified time before sleep (brain needs a break); know all usernames & passwords; know which games they are playing & who they play with #OnlineSafety
Lots of #OnlineSafety issues that our kids could be faced with. Visit the eSafety guide from @eSafetyOffice for key issues & how to address them for each app https://www.esafety.gov.au/key-issues/esafety-guide
Start by talking with your kids about dodgy stuff that could happen online. Ask what might make them feel unsafe. Kids are pretty cluey - I’m impressed with these year 4 & 5 student responses! #OnlineSafety
Help your kids build positive ways to interact online: be interested & engaged - play together online, listen & be a supportive coach, help them report & deal with negative stuff if it happens #OnlineSafety
Send the kids to the website too, great resources for them to engage with & learn about #OnlineSafety
Parents #OnlineSafety guide is available https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents/online-safety-guide AND @eSafetyOffice are now running additional webinars starting in response to #COVID19Aus re keeping your sanity & supporting kids online
