Last night at home group I shared the value online church has been to me. Not our local church, but the community on Twitter that has operated for a lot longer and is a joy and a support to me. I explained the pain that comes when the physical church talks down the online one.
I explained there is a difference between saying, 'we would not ideally relate to one another through a screen' and, 'the church cannot not relate to one another through a screen'. For some this isn't a temporary solution, it's how we do church.
For too long, we have told there is One Way to do church. There are many iterations but they are pretty similar in format. But with today's technology, we can perform many if not all of the key communities activities online.
@DisabilityJ and @wowchurchuk , @YouBelong_2019 and @Strgl_St_Bible have all shown it can be done: fellowship through fun events, bible studies, services. These things are denied to many who are unable to easily get to church or to someones house.
We need to stop seeing online church as the poorer alternative to physical church. It isn't. It's a vibrant community of individuals who love Jesus and seek to love him more.
