As I’ve finally got new headphones and remain incredibly bored I’m gonna start reviewing new albums. This’ll likely be of no interest to you unless you enjoy east coast rap.
Today’s album: Reasonable Drought ~ Stove God Cooks x Roc Marciano

Roc’s production is as good as you’d expect but the raps are a little pedestrian/repetitive. Stove God has a nice singing change up which keeps it interesting. Bread of Life and Lava Lamp are the highlights. 6/10
Big Ghost Ltd ~ Carpe Noctem

Too one paced and beats not really good enough for a producers album. Gotta heap of good underground MCs on it but could do with more variation track to track. Feels more like a posse cut than a producers album. Murder at the Opera the standout, 5/10
LULU ~ Conway x alchemist

Conway is the best rapper out right now and Al is a top 5 producer so I had high hopes for this it didn’t quite live up to. Still every track is solid I was just expecting album of the year quality. Shoot Sideways & They Got Sonny are both bangers. 7/10
Pray For Paris ~ Westside Gunn

Album of the year so far. Man at the top of his game. Everything Westside does somehow feels like the most original thing out and classic 90s rap at the same time. The whole album is a highlight, 8/10
Lucky 13 ~ Flee Lord

A really enjoyable album the whole way through with good beats and features on top of Flee’s usual solid work. Liked every song except the outro. Highlights were Now I’m On Stage, Made Men and We Mobbin’. 7/10
Descendants of Cain ~ Brownsville Ka

Typically good work from the best storyteller in hip hop right now. As usual the album all flows together as one good piece of music rather than a bunch of random songs. Sins of the Father ft Roc Marci and Patron Saints the highlights. 7.5/10
The Residue (EP) ~ Rome Streetz

Not up to his usual level. Word play all there as expected but the beats are lacking and it feels like it was thrown together in a rush. Yes Universe the last track is the one standout. 5.5/10
No One Mourns the Wicked ~ Conway x Big Ghost

More what you expect from the best current artist in the game. Grimier beats just suit his style more and every song is solid. Dead Flowers is an instant banger and the beat on Shark Guts is outstanding. 7.5/10
The Beauty Of It ~ Eto

Pretty good all the way through but nothing totally mind blowing or new on there. Highlights were No and Metal Lords. Worth a spin, 6.5/10
Glass 2.0 ~ meyhem Lauren x Harry fraud

Meyhem is one of my favourite current rappers, but this is not great by his standards. Beats sound like the soundtrack to an 80s LA Noir film. Bit one paced and boring. G Shit is the one stand out. 5.5/10
Milestones ~ Skyzoo

Really enjoyed this. The theme about black fathers is a little bit preachy for my normal taste but the beats and lyrics are good and it feels like an actual album despite being EP length. Good listen all the way through but A Song For Fathers stands out, 7/10
Hand Me My Flowers ~ Flee Lord

Anothe really enjoyable project from Flee Lord, even if 22 mins running time is a bit quick. Every tracks solid but Ten From This Clip and Toast To My Neighbor bang. 7/10 again for Flee.
The Pimpire Strikes Back ~ Roc Marciano

A rare actual full album on this list. Mostly pretty solid if a bit uninventive, but the beats on a couple grate badly. Solid productions and lyrics just a bit same same from the NYC king. Bronson feature tracks the standouts. 6.5/10
Ways & Means ~ Rasheed Chappell x 38 Spesh

Pretty pedestrian. 38’s production is clean but unspectacular and Rasheed never really leaves second gear. Would’ve benefited from a bit of change of pace with some 38 Spesh verses. Iron Head and Rules on Conduct are good tracks. 5.5/10
Nose Kandy 4 ~ Rome Streetz

A return to form from Rome, this is much more what you expect from him. Every beat offers something a bit different, flow and lyrics on point as usual. Prophet & A Pusher, Higher Self and New York Minute are all keepers. Give it a spin, 7/10
Flygod 2 ~ Westside Gunn

This isn’t on the same planet as Pray For Paris. He claims to have recorded the whole thing in 39 hours and it feels that way too. Love Gunn but this seems like a step backward from his last few projects. Lil’ Cease the highlight track. 5.5/10
Fully Loaded ~ Buckwild

The DITC legend drops a production album that could’ve been released in ‘98 if it weren’t for the artists featured on it, and I mean that as a compliment. One for the old heads. YDN, Mad Rich and Fully Loaded are all winners. 6.5/10
Gunpowder ~ Hus Kingpin

Hus is another roc Marci disciple who generally raps over similar style beats with no baseline. I really liked the first half of this album but it falls off a bit towards the last few tracks. The Bucketlist and Kill Bill the two standout tracks. 6.5/10
HHSS ~ Lord Juco

Prettt enjoyable short project. Production is solid, few good features. Could do with a bit more change up in the beats. Via Dolorosa and Gloria are both standout tracks. 6/10
The Price or Tea in China ~ Boldy James

Might be my 2nd favourite album of the year. Starts real strong then tails off a bit to the end but being a proper full length album still lots good on there. Caruth is track of the year quality. Slow Roll & Grey October both great 7.5/10
Season 7 ~ Daniel Son

Good quick listen. Beats are all good but the production is a little tinny. Daniel Son is one of the best young lyricists around and this keeps that trend up. Till It’s Over and No Days Off the highlights. Extra .5 for the constant sopranos references. 7/10
Black Soprano Family x DJ Drama

This project is basically Benny the Butcher lending his name to it as a chopout to his mates from Buffalo but it’s still pretty solid. The other BSF guys all hold their own. In Love With the Streets and Valery the two standout tracks. 6/10
Eto Brigante ~ Eto

Genuinely interesting concept album which is a rarity in hip hop these days. Basically raps the plot of the film Carlitos Way which is my all time fav Pacino film. Eto is a good rapper so this had potential to be great for me but beats dont quite live up. 6/10
The Liz ~ Armani Caesar

Really good debut album from the female member of the Griselda crew. Has something for people who love Conway and people who love Nikki Minaj. Trails off a bit in the last few tracks though. Countdown, Drillarama and Simply Done the highlights. 7/10
Only For Dolphins ~ Action Bronson

This album is hot garbage. Bronson has smoked himself retarded. Vega and Sergio the only songs that redeem this. He should stick to making food travel shows. 3/10
Who Made the Sunshine ~ Westside Gunn

With this Gunn has two of my favourite three albums of the year. Only one song on it I didn’t love, most are brilliant. Slick Rick feature was inspired. 98 Sabers, Ishkabibble’s & Butcher and the Blade all song of the year candidates. 8/10
Homegrown ~ Smoke DZA

Solid album all the way though without setting the world on fire or breaking new ground. Sampling is great but backing beats a bit off for me. Good without ever grabbing you. 143 and the Dipset collab on Tradition the two standouts. 6/10
Streams of Thought vol 3 ~ Black Thought

Tariq is still the best lyricist alive but the beats leave a lot to be desired. Too many bad singing hooks as well. Best tracks are Good Morning and Steak Um. 5/10
