My cousin is currently pregnant, she isn’t sure about keeping it or not. She asked me to order somethings for her which were baby related, my foster sister had seen them. She thought I was having a baby so I told her what was happening.
She asked about it again tonight. I was honest with her, telling her that my cousin wasn’t too sure about keeping the baby or not. She was confused, asking if she meant giving it up for adoption and I said no, so like any 11 year old she continue asking questions.
I told her about abortion, that my cousin was considering it as one of her options. She was a little shocked, a bit confused. “Why would someone do that?” She questioned. I told her about some people not being ready to have babies, not wanting babies, or whatever reason they had.
She asked if people were allowed to do that, to which I answered yes as we’re Canadian and it’s legal here. She was surprised that in some places it wasn’t allowed. “That’s not fair. It’s her body, why can’t she choose?”
If an eleven year old can understand the concept of “my body, my choice” then grown adults should be able to as well.
