Tamil Nadu, with a population of 70 million, has 14 million acres of arable land. Michigan, with a population of 10 million, has 10 million acres. It's not even among the top ten agricultural states of the US
1.4 million residents of Michigan need State support to meet their food needs. 900,000 school children in the State are beneficiaries of free or low-cost school meals.
TN has a universal low-cost grocery program and a universal school meal program.
It is a reasonable goal to ensure that we cover the vulnerable 15-20% of our population through a subsidized food program. A food stamp program must be piloted in more advanced Indian States to help us target and deliver food subsidies better.
