Birth to 1 m. Uses reflexes such as sucking swallowing, startle. At 1 m begins to vocalise mostly saying vowels.
At 2 m smiles at the sound of familiar voices and follows you with their eyes around the room.
3 m they raise their head and chest when lying on the stomach. Grasp objects and smiles at people.
4 m they babble (combing a vowel and a consonant). They laugh and try to imitate sounds. They hold their head steady.
6 m they roll from back to stomach and stomach to back. Move objects from 1 hand to the other.
7 m they respond to their own name and find partially hidden objects.
9 m sits without support, crawls, lifts themselves up to a standing position with support, begins using 1st words like mama and dada
12 m walks with/without support. Says at least 1 word, speaks in "Chinese" (called jargon).
18 m walks independently, drinks from a cup, says at least 15 words, points to parts of body.
2 yes runs and jumps, speaks 2 word sentences, follows simple instructions, begins to engage in make-believe play
3 yrs climbs well, speaks in multi word sentences. Sorts objects by color and shapes.
4 yrs gets along with people outside the family. Draws circles and squares and rides a tricycle
5 yrs tells name and address. Jumps, hops and skips. Gets dressed and counts 10 or more objects.
If your child seems to be delayed, don't panic. Delays by a few weeks or months are often minor problems or no delay at all. Premature children may be delayed. For significant delays such as cerebral palsy, visit your pediatrician, speech therapist or occupational therapist
