Indian Muslims never took their plight elsewhere. They believed in the Indian constitution. They voted. They fought through the courts in the slim hope of getting justice. They continued to believe if you educate yourself and work hard, you can get ahead. 1/n
They never appealed to the global community to help resolve domestic issues. Things were never great, but things were never this bad. Muslims have been pushed to the limits. People who presided over killings are now in power. Others are complicit. Cowardice or co-option. 2/n
An electoral victory turns into a pogrom. A pandemic into calls for violence and then actual violence. Boycotts and beatings.

The media is mostly incendiary. The government is full of bigots. The courts are biased. The police are hateful. The mob always ready to lynch. 3/n
When we speak, we are deemed too loud. Or not loud enough. When we protest, we are termed violent. When we plead, don’t take away our citizenship, we are termed traitors. Our universities are torched. Our students are attacked. Our moms lose babies. 4/n
Our slogans get NSA slapped on them. Hell, even our art gets painted over.

So, don’t look at Muslims if you hear a few voices of mild criticism from your friends. You brought them here. You, you and you too. Not us. n/n
