This is a great, powerful move by President Trump. It does several things with one stroke of the pen. https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1252418369170501639?s=20
1. On the virus front, it stops vectors from around the world causing hotspots. Along with the ban on travel from China, Europe, Canada and Mexico; it allows a greater chance that hotspots will not be springing up constantly for the next several months.
2. It also will reduce the risk of a "second wave" of the virus in the fall/winter

3. On the Job front, it will help jobless Americans quickly find not just jobs but higher paying jobs since they won't have to compete with lower paid immigrants, newly arrived.
4. Since we are rapidly approaching the graduation time of students from Colleges, we are facing an additional 4 million people entering the workforce with 22+ million unemployed. Businesses will be wary of hiring these students since their last semester was basically a wash.
5. There are an avg of 1+million legal immigrants arriving in this country/year. Before the reduction of illegal immigration at the southern border last year we were seeing massive influxes of illegal immigrants. Both will now be curtailed, along with visa overstays.
6. If/when Trump wins reelection he can keep these limits in place for a long time depending on the jobs numbers and the virus spread around the world. Businesses will get adapted to hiring Americans again after several months/years of low immigration.
7. The money chain that makes legal immigration profitable will dry up just like it has with the refugee programs and to a lesser extant illegal immigration. Instead of businesses paying bribes to Congress to get more immigration, they will start bribing them for things like tax
...cuts, infrastructure repair, changes in labor laws. Globalism will be reduced. Citizenship will grow more important.

8. Politically, it's a solid win/win. It solidifies his base. It reduces the chances of voter fraud by the dems. Depending on how long it's in force it could
....change some purple and blue states red as the influx is slowed and the native population can grow. It may even cause the dems to once again care about Americans first since they will need their votes once again.

9. It will allow assimilation to occur.
10. The reduction of illegal immigration will help the budget. Legal immigration will have less of a impact on the budget since most have to show they can support themselves to come here.

11. The travel ban is helping the anchor baby problem.

12. The SCOTUS will rule on DACA
...soon. This stoppage of all immigration will just reinforce to the court that the POTUS has the power to control immigration.

13. It stops the lottery immigration and it stops chain migration. When immigration is allowed to return, my bet is that it will be based on merit.
14. Why merit? Because as long as Trump wins in Nov he has complete leverage on immigration and to open it back up the dems will have to cave to his demands and he wants merit immigration. If SCOTUS rules against DACA that's more leverage.
15. It may even change some views on abortion within government as state/local governments can not quickly repopulate their states with immigrants. This may cause a move to downplay abortions. This will probably not happen quickly but if the ban lasts for a year or so? who knows.
16. It may speed the redeployment of supply chains as nations beef up border controls & the stoppage of the "free flow" of people across borders makes industry rethink their needs and workforce.

There are probably others I'm not thinking about, but all in all this is a good move
