i’d like to talk about #adamdriverisoverparty

i barely have ANY followers at all so i don’t expect anyone to see this, but i’ll say it anyways solely because i want to.
my dad is palestinian, he moved to the usa when he was in his early twenties. i travel to dubai yearly to visit his side of the family, who are all palestinian and islamic, so i have a pretty good understanding of islamic culture & beliefs, so i feel like i can talk about this.
i personally don’t care that much for the star wars sequels, i don’t hate them but i don’t stan them. i definitely wouldn’t consider myself an adam driver stan, but i definitely wouldn’t consider him islamophobic.
to start, i’d like to talk about the military thing:

adam joined the marine corps when he was a teenager, right after 9/11. he, like the majority of americans at that time, was shocked, scared, upset, & angry.
he wanted to fight back against TERRORISTS— not muslims— and the fact that you all are calling him islamophobic because he dislikes terrorists is insinuating that all muslims are terrorists, which is EXTREMELY INCORRECT.
now, onto the thing that makes more sense: the snl joke.

adam made an islamophobic joke during an snl skit about aladdin, and i completely understand where everyone is coming from with this one.
i was also really offended and upset when he made that joke, and i was even more confused as to why nobody was addressing it in the comments of the video.
i’ve seen several interviews with adam, along with a ted talk that he did, and he seems like a genuinely smart and intelligent person. i’m not going to call him an angel and claim he apologized for the joke because there’s no proof of that,
but i really don’t think he genuinely thinks that way. i see where everyone is coming from, but i don’t see why we’re suddenly cancelling him over a 4 year old sketch? we’ve been down this road already.
i honestly feel like all of the hate towards adam driver comes solely from the hatred for ben solo/kylo ren. i prefer the prequels over the sequels myself, but the amount of star wars stans that get into genuine fights over the prequels and sequels is mind blowing.
at the end of the day, they’re just characters in a story. like them or not, they aren’t real people, and they’re not causing any real harm in the world. stop arguing over anakin or ben being better, +
stop acting like people who were even the least bit sad over ben solo’s death are the literal antichrist. just because someone likes a character doesn’t mean they like who the character is as a person. you can think an evil character is interesting without liking +
their personality. star wars is a story. it may be very universally known, but it is still a fictional story and it shouldn’t be taken so seriously. star wars was originally aimed at a younger audience, it was intended to be an ultra-modern fairy tale.
i think i’ve said enough, this thread is already way longer than i intended anyways. if you read it all, thank you lol
