I am HEATED. I just had someone tell me that I’m racist because I used the word “colonizer.” Said person also told me that “this is my land too and I’m not going anywhere.” This is why I will never stop educating others about the truth of what my ancestors endured.
It doesn’t even have anything to do with the land anymore. All I want is less ignorance. There was a whole culture genocide and I’m the one that is racist because I said “I wish colonizers understood.” I want everyone and their dog to understand the atrocities that happened.
I am not invalidating any other non-native cultures that have endured such treatment. The difference is that I am empathetic to the other cultures. While my people are being told to “let it go because the past is in the past.” I don’t know why it’s so hard to say “that’s awful”
Tribes all over North America are fighting to keep their cultures alive. Battling historical trauma is not an easy task. The last thing I am going to waste my time on is being racist towards non-natives.
