I think we can move beyond "the cruelty is the point" to "the exhaustiveness of the cruelty is the key to its success" at this stage

It's a hell of a strategy, to be so relentlessly evil and loudly stupid that it's almost impossible to combat, especially within a media ecosystem that loves entertainment above all else, and against generations of people that are worn down by so many negative defining events
