30 years ago, when Prince released the GRAFFITI BRIDGE album, I not only hated the movie but did not like the album at all with one exception: "Thieves In The Temple" although I loved the 12" mix. However, my love of "Joy In Repetition" didn't happen until the EMANICIPATION show.
When he did "Joy In Repetition" at the EMANICIPATION performance, I thought "did I really overlook this song?" His guitar solo and performance during that show was incredible and the crowd was beyond overwhelmed, as I was.
The point is, I did not like the BATMAN album (loved the B-sides more) and GRAFFITI BRIDGE would take years for me to fully enjoy it. DIAMONDS AND PEARLS, 0{+> and COME, I loved those albums from the start so I had a bit of a leap of appreciation.
After COME and as he became "The Artist Formerly Known As", I was a fan of everything from the direct and funky to the outright weird. When he released the 26-minute "The War" with The New Power Generation, I loved that more than anything. I played that cassette like crazy.
I also realized I spelled EMANCIPATION wrong in this thread. Twice. Apologies.
