THREAD: RACIST AND PROBLEMATIC DESIGNERS/ PROMINENT FIGURES IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY
coming up first, we have mister john galliano! not only did he verbally assault a couple, calling one a "f*cking ugly jewish b*tch" and the other a "f*cking asian b*stard" there is also recorded evidence of him on anti-semitic rant saying "i love h*tler" amonst other things
next we have none other than marc jacobs! in his ss 2017 collection, he thought it was a brilliant idea to dress (mainly white) models in dreadlocks! a direct quote from jacobs: â[To] all who cry âcultural appropriationâ or whatever nonsense about any race or skin colour wearing-
-their hair in any particular style or manner â funny how you donât criticise women of colour for straightening their hairâ & also said that he doesn& #39;t see color or race! how delightful!
next up to bat is alexander wang as a sexual predator! he has inappropriately groped many trans women in PUBLIC. on top of this, he has also tried to expose an trans woman& #39;s genitals in public. a trash person and designer all around!
additionally, we have the fantastic jean paul gaultier who defended galliano& #39;s racist rant by saying "with recordings, people can be made to say things they did not say...what is the context?" i& #39;m not sure how much context gaultier needs besides galliano& #39;s famous-
"i love Hitler, and people like you would be dead today. your mothers, your forefathers, would be... gassed and... dead." a lovely way for gaultier to follow up his "fuck racism" jeans of 1997, no?
now we have a two for one special! stefano gabbana and domenico dolce of d&g seem to have a long history of racist and deeply problematic sentiments deep with their (un)shockingly racist 2018 ad, supporing melania trump and getting her to wear their designs (???), coming out-
with a shoe they called the "slave sandal," refusal to support gay couples becoming parents, and their racist "blackamoor-inspired" earrings in their ss 2013 collection ...need i say more??
please do feel free to add any racist or problematic people, companies, or incidents within the fashion industry, this is by no means an exhaustive list!
