Trump's evolving exaggeration of what Pelosi said in San Francisco Chinatown in late February is a good little example of how he operates with dishonesty. 1/
Pelosi called for people to come to Chinatown. Her exact words: "Come to Chinatown." So Trump could, if he wanted, bash her for not taking the virus threat seriously enough at that point, or use her actual words to China-bait, whatever. 2/
Instead, Trump has wrongly claimed that Pelosi called for:
- "the big parade, Chinatown parade" (April 13)
- "parties in Chinatown" (April 15)
- "a street fair in Chinatown" (tonight)
Trump says much more dishonest things than this on a nightly basis. But it shows, again, how he usually prefers dramatic lies to even helpful truths.
Addendum: This is the kind of Trump dishonesty that news outlets get supporter backlash for reporting on. Supporters will say it's nitpicking to note
she didn't call for a parade or parties, that we're missing his Broader Point out of a desire to get him.
And: calling out the exaggerations ("Fact check: Pelosi didn't call for Chinatown parties or a parade; she called for people to visit Chinatown") serves to amplify a truth that is helpful (or possibly helpful) to Trump.

So...I don't know! The end.
