Unpopular opinion: we should never prop up businesses with government handouts. Ever. We should 'let the market decide' on whether a business is viable or not. However, we should be propping up our people via social safety net and welfare.
You lose your job? Here's your unemployment benefits. You are sick or have chronic conditions? Here is your free medical care. You need education? Here it is. Spend the money on the *people* not the businesses. The people are the economy.
At the same time, we need to change the mindset around our society. Once we get the basics right on everyone, it allows them to innovate and grow. This is where running and working for businesses come in. We should allow this freedom to run businesses, less regulations, innovate.
Make it easier to run businesses. Make it easier for people to contribute to the society. Equalise the marginalised groups and allow them to thrive rather than survived.
