Alright I’m gonna critique recent album and single covers cause I’m bored and visual art is my life so—
Ain’t nobody ask but thats not gonna stop me. I’ll probably add to this thread as more are revealed
I want to start with this one for some reason. It’s not as recent but it still holds my interest so I guess I’ll start here. I like asymmetrical things; just so you know. The pose she is doing and the way she is holding her hair sorta emphasizes that asymmetry—
There is also this Afrofuturism style I get from this. Maybe it’s the leather(?) bikini that looks like metal and the unbalanced tri-ponytails. Overall this cover is effective with the tracks on the album and it’s very appealing.
I- hm the concept of this is interesting but I am not very into the execution. I don’t like how large they are across his entire torso. I will commend the illustrator for the attention to form when putting these images —
of the girls’ on this slightly stylized render of Swae’s body. I guess the off putting thing about this is the girls’ half-body portraits are across his whole body. Maybe it would look more appealing if he just had facial portraits on his back or something.
I think that would’ve looked cooler(?). Imagine that with his face sort of looking over his shoulder. That wouldn’t have worked with the visualizer as well, but it would have been more aesthetically pleasing, to me. It still does the job of garnering interests of streamers tho
I can’t find a closer reference of what I mean but you get the idea I’m going with here
I really like this mystical broken hourglass composition. The color is really beautiful. Honestly this is one of my favorite designs for a MX cover. Huh I don’t know what else to say about this one.—
I guess I can add that the switching of elements from Follow:FY(water) to Fantasia X(earth, it looks like sand?) is interesting and makes me wonder will this reflect in the atmosphere/vibe of the album itself.
It’s a given that it will in someway be apart of the concept and MV visuals(like with Follow). But will the songs themselves also, cause I did get a kind of a ‘cold water’ feeling from Follow? lol
Next, Rocker royals is one of my favorite aesthetic and this hit the bar. It’s not that far from what their previous covers have been but it is still effective. I find this film quality to be the most interesting trait about it.—
Graphically, the text and symbols’ layout isn’t too distracting from the photography or overpowering; the placement works well.
The styling and makeup for this cover is great. Her pose with her hands adds a tad more... hm I don’t know what word to use. But if you get it, you get it. Also the diagonal line her hair creates sets the composition off and adds more visual interest—
I’ve always found that even the slightest bit of asymmetry can create a lot more visually interesting.
Another that isn’t incredibly different but is very effective. It correlates well with the album and has a story to it; coming straight for the visuals for the lead single. It has a dark and menacingly(?) puckish tone.
Alright that’s enough typing things nobody will read for today
