Let's talk about some guys I like that I think are realistic choices for the #Eagles...First, though, a bit about why Howie has to use his first 2 picks on WRs.
For a long time I've thought the first 2 picks would be a WR (obviously) and a safety. S is a position the team has valued in the past, and one with a clear need. Moreover, there are some guys whose value aligns with the picks we have (McKinney, Winfield, Chinn) either in 1 or 2
The problem, as we all know, is that Howie is dreadful at WR evals. JJAW looks like a complete whiff. He has 22 targets in 486 offensive snaps. 10 catches. All while his competition for targets was largely replacement and below-replacement level guys.
So how do you get WRs when you're bad at drafting them and choose not to sign or trade for any? Take a lot of swings. In particular, you find a better-than-average draft and you take a few swings there. Even in a great draft, though, after rd 2 your odds are terribly low.
The good news is the need is SO acute, that it's actually not a bad use of resources to take WR at both 1 and 2. They'd both get on the field! If Alshon is gone, as seems likely, there are plenty of snaps to go around.
Meanwhile, the other obvious positions of need are on D, where you've got a great DC that was just given a top CB. Given that, lean all the way into the offense and let Schwartz do what he always does: outperform his asset allocation.
