so my theory on “what’s wrong with America” is based on convenience. when you can get anything immediately, you feel entitled to it. whether that’s Walmart or Amazon.
also getting something immediately renders it valueless. and having a life full of disposable things imparts less value on your life. and if you don’t value your life, you don’t value other people’s lives.
this combination of entitlement and disregard comes to bear in a situation like healthcare (I want my money; I don’t want to take care of others), but also in the Covid protests (I want my haircut; I don’t value the lives of health workers).
so the best way to fix America is to make the lockdown last longer, because everything will become inconvenient— and the things you can get will become valuable to you. and so will seeing other people (and understanding that they exist).
