Ok....clearly I need to do a short thread on why Covid is NOT a man made Virus and definitely not man made from China(??!!) since this is a thing people think???! . Be looking for that in an hour or so.

Perhaps the best way to start is by talking about the Wuhan centers. Yes. Wuhan has a very top notch center called WIV (Wuhan Institute of Virology. It’s a great center. Yes, as with most things China, they keep their cards close to the best. But, some of the best and brightest

Are there. It’s a high level center that operates a lot like the higher levels of the CDC does. There are several world class god tier centers all over the world. Maryland. Korea, Zimbabwe...the list goes on. They are all highly regarded. Wuhan is just a tick below them. Anyway

While WIV works with and manipulates viruses to see what they can/can’t do/how they work/how they don’t work/what their origins are/ how to create new ones...this is all STANDARD STUFF. It’s high security and operates with a universal code and regulations (like all of us do).

With all of this as the base, let’s go one step up and get into synthetic virology. That’s the area that deals with..well...creating things. Let’s talk about WHY this exists first. It’s not for nefarious purposes and relates to synthetic biology in a big way. Let’s use an example

To understand how a car works, the best way is to take it apart and build it from the bottom up. Get to know what parts go where...where the parts come from..how they interact..and what the parts do. Reasonable. In the same way, this is what is being done to viruses.

Let’s say when you take this car apart you now can see the reason why a certain car was killing people. Or...how to use a different part in that parts place to make the car run better. Centers are disassembling viruses and sequencing them to do just this.

When we do the things above we have to use existing viruses. We can’t just smoosh a bunch of rando stuff together and hide that along the way. We WOULD KNOW. Why? Because of the info above about sequencing. It would be sussed out fast. Make sense?

And the smooshing (as I’m calling it) would would be traceable. We would sequence it and go...”oh. This is X mixed with X and X” Here’s the thing about this virus. NO SMOOSHING. If this was manmade it would involve smooshing. This virus is something we have never seen.

We are not gods. There are rules and limits on science. We abide by not only a moral code as scientists, but a code enforced by our limitations today. This code means we would know and be able to see in this RNA virus where it came from. Like...an origin story.

So. The notion that this was accidentally created and accidentally unleashed is ridiculous based on what’s above. What should be mentioned here is that we have had in the past a few incidents of things “getting loose” from labs. Also, the market that’s “in question” is very close

Ok...this thread got long. My bad. But, here’s the summary. This is not manmade. There is a lot of proof. Odds are what we are seeing is a spillover event from pangolins/bats to us. And for those asking-the specific bats don’t live anywhere near Wuhan so gtfo with that.
