So last night, I dreamed @MichaelSwanwick & @gregory_frost and I were trying to skip out of a reading. Before I could leave, my MFA advisor Larry Levis & my UVA poetry professor Rita Dove stopped me & asked me what I thought about Larry’s new poem in the collection I was held.
This is a thing I wrote in my journal this morning, but thought too weird to post on Twitter. 1: because I would not skip on a reading. 2: because Larry passed away in 1996, while I was finishing my thesis. All I can remember from the dream was being super excited to see what...
Larry’s new poem was.
I have so many favorites of his. If you’ve been around me for some time, I’ve handed you Anastasia and Sandman at least once. Probably more if I think highly of you. https://poets.org/poem/anastasia-sandman
So the thing about dreams these days is they are lightning charged. I didn’t know what it meant. The last time I spoke to Larry? According to my journal, it was April 19, 1996.

So, I figured, brains ... weird.
Except that’s not the end of the story. It’s not the beginning of the story either.

I can’t say anything more right now but I promise I’ll pick this thread up in a bit.

I just want to say thanks, Larry, for stopping by. It means a lot.
Also PS dream-Rita I saw you shake your head no at me for even thinking about skipping and I was utterly sent back to Cabell Hall
