I feel like there's a difference between fantasy/sci-fi fics that explore themes of slavery and how that impacts a character's relationship with their world and those who have it mostly to satisfy their niche kink. The latter are the ones I avoid.
There should be a way to differentiate between the two. Like, I wish we called the latter "slavefic" without also including the former because the former is just kinda normal sci-fi/fantasy. Like, GoT had slavery but it wasn't for sex purposes
No one calls Game of Thrones "slavefic", it's just a story with slavery in it. Anyway, there are certain levels of slavefic, and while people are free to enjoy whatever fantasy they want, there are levels that are beyond my ability to tolerate.
Some are so ignorant to what slavery is in order to get off that it both confuses and offends me. Others are just C*ptive Prince, which I consider slavefic because the dynamics really do come into play a lot. Half the titillation comes for the slavey parts
this was a story where this woman's mother was a slave, and yet she was still totes cool with it and gets her OWN sex slave who she then torments sexually which is one thing if they're villains but everyone is just like, totes cool with this and happy????
I mean, I get it, it's supposed to be kink but like... I cannot imagine how you just decide that reality doesn't apply and everyone can have sex slaves and that's fun and even the sex slaves are 100% cool with it. WHAT???
I'm the kind of person who likes fucked up power dynamics, but there's no point to it if there's not conflict that comes as a result. Like, to me, if your fantasy novel has slavery in it, you're saying something about the society you're writing about.
To write sex slaves and just have it be a fun casual thing... why not write it as straight-up kink? Like, it's all pretend and everyone's doing it consensually and isn't that fun? Why even make them real slaves if the slavery isn't supposed to be BAD.
I'm telling ya. People write some weird shit on the internet.
