Story time -a Thread-😊 my body imagine issues started very young & stemmed from the fact that I was deemed too “masculine.” I have learned to embrace this over the years, especially in 2008 when I saw drag for the first time.
My mom explained drag to me. And I was in love. I saw “masculine” bodies exuding femininity and that’s when I realized that almost everything about about being “feminine” is kinda made up.
My wrestling is still fueled by drag. I have had the honor of working for several queer wrestling companies (hi @TheBillyDixon #butchvsgore ) I even wrestled at drag bars. My first wrestling name was LIL POUNDCAKE.
By 2014, I was the opening act for @AlyssaEdwards_1 at a small gig at a Pride event in NH. Where she said “Miss Rin...idk how it took a biological woman to turn the pageant but you did bitch.” (Don’t drag my makeup,
It sucked)
I was so inspired by the LGTBQ community in college, I racked up enough classes to major in Gender Studies...in addition to my psychology major....pretty much by accident. It was truly my passion.
I was supporting my more genderqueer and fluid friends strike a comfortable balance between masculinity and femininity. Those people remain to be my best friends over five years later. And I will protect and support them at all costs.
When I graduated, the LGTBQ community at Dartmouth presented me with a rainbow tassel to wear at graduation. It meant so much to be bc such a marginalized community accepted me for who I was. I still have it ❤️
My grandpa took me to a wrestling show very randomly. This is where I realized that drag and wrestling are the SO SIMILAR. This was going to be the closest I thought I could get to being a drag queen myself...which is a dream come true.
I signed up for a wrestling school 3 weeks later...which is where I wound up meeting my husband.
With or without #dragnificent, my wedding would not have happened without drag. No drag = no wrestling = no groom = no wedding.
I hope this clears some things up for people. Those queens are truly a blessing whether they have hip pads on or not. Thank you dolls for coming and helping! And thank y’all for coming to my ted talk ❤️
