YA is a broad category that should appeal to ALL teen readers and speak to ALL of their experiences. A YA book with sex in it is not an adult book in disguise.

The adults right now who are complaining that YA has become a sex fest for profit - that’s ignorance.

If you or your teen are not comfortable with sex in a YA book, there’s zero wrong with that and there are plenty of YA books without sex. DM me if you want recommendations, I’ve read several sex-free YA recently.

But again, sex is not inherently inappropriate.

Teens who don’t have sex or are not interested in sex are valid. Teens who do are valid. All teens in between are valid and are allowed to have the stories they want. What you choose for your kid is not what is best for all kids.
