I have a lot of feelings about satellites* * and the extreme relatability to the lgbt experience. Hear me out as I proceed to probably talk absolute shite
“I don't like the limelight //
So we don't hold hands in daylight”
Ah yes. The closeted lover. Not wanting to draw attention to urself in public so u don’t get hatecrimed (but also in this context maybe also not wanting media attention and people prying into ur private life)
“I still drag the closet
All my limbs, they ache inside”
Closet. This line doesn’t need any further explanation. But clearly the pain is from dragging it for so long
“And surely all my family and my friends // My god and my ends // They cannot all be wrong // So I play along”
Gotta Love Living In A Heteronormative And Homophobic Society !
“We refrain from touch // We are satellites // In a cosmic dance // Amongst the northern lights”
God these lines are so fucking beautiful and so fucking sad. Not being able to show ur love for someone is so painful
“And we orbit fast // But I wish we could collide // I'm sick of concealing // I'm sick of the feeling // I no longer want to hide”
Sorry I can’t add thoughtful commentary anymore bc I’m too busy WEEPING
There are more lyrics between but the next poignant part is “Now online they discuss // Whether I exist // And in the court they decide // Who I can kiss”.
Definitely a dig at virulent online and legislative homophobia.
Idk if this is just my gay saturated brain but I can’t think of any other context for this song. @RouReynolds satellites* * is beautiful and heartbreaking and whether you personally relate to it or not is ur story to tell but I just wanna thank you for it nonetheless.
