Since many people aren’t fully aware of what actually happened regarding the Yeosang and Seonghwa incident, I would like to make a short thread about it. Please read the whole thing before making assumptions about the situation and my intention with this thread and spread this!

To start off, Ye0sang and Se0nghwa did NOT appropriate South Asian culture, but were actually doing 합장인 and 중품중생, which are two Mudras that are important in Korean Buddhism.

The song playing in the video is from the National Gugak Center located in Seoul. It’s an institution to learn traditional music. The former name for it is The National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts.

Although many Koreans are not Buddhists, quite a few are brought up with Buddhist influences. Buddhism is a part of Korean Culture, therefore they are taught about it early on in school. Yeosang mentioned how it reminded him of when they did this in school.

Here are some images of the hand movements! I may be wrong, but I believe Yeosang and Seonghwa were doing the gestures that I put the heart icons beside.

I just wanted to make it clear that this thread is NOT me trying to blindly defend Ateez or bash on South Asians or those offended. I believe that those who were offended had every right to be so. I did some digging and talked with many people to make sure this info is accurate +

+ so it wouldn’t seem like I am making things up to defend the boys and invalidating those hurt, as I have NO intentions of doing such. My only intention with this thread is to prevent false info from spreading, and instead, let people know what ACTUALLY happened.
