Came out of the same anti-glam postpunk scene as U2. But in a rare moment of humility, Bono admitted that if Joe Strummer hadn't died, U2 would be lugging the Clash's gear now.

Jackson Publick was right. Ca. 1990 we really did think they were gonna be the future of rock & roll.

I'd have taken more albums like Doubt and (the superior) follow up Perverse over the glut of soundalike grunge fare any day.
