My bro, who I've not seen for weeks, lives in a home with 7 others with learning disabilities. The staff there do an amazing job. He developed symptoms and was swabbed within 48 hours (yesterday). He has very limited understanding of what is happening. GP suggested isolating him,
which meant locking him in his room, upsetting him immensely. The staff felt it was not right so are trying to manage as best as they can. Thankfully they have adequate PPE. His temp & cough have gone. He's physically fit, I'm confident he'll be fine.

But a co-resident has died.
In such a small facility, it's upset everyone.

Adults with learning disabilities will have been hit particularly hard by coronavirus. Not only because they may have comorbidities, but routines have been disrupted, day activities cancelled. My brother loves being outdoors.
Carers of people with disabilities & the elderly spend often the entire day in very close proximity to someone who might be totally dependent on them for personal care, feeding etc. I feel like their risk is 10 fold that of mine, an 'NHS hero'. I feel safe at work tbh, not heroic
I know it's 'clap for carers', but I do feel they get forgotten. As do those with learning disabilities and their families, for whom this is a really scary time.
