whenever i see tutorials on color/ palettes, i keep thinking abt how pointless they are
like specifically ones that help u get better at color picking
like nah, it's not how it works?
u just,,, pick ur favorite hue and that's it
rock those neons my dude ur doing great

in a year or two you won't need to colorpick shit ever again, you will literally pick the same color by instinct with SUCH minimal value difference that even ur art program will be like "it's the same picture"
and that ain't bad? if you happy w that, that's all that matters

you can teach people how to design, how to work accents, how to manage colors, etc whatever, but you can't teach people how to pick their own colors without adapting your bias
therefor you also can't teach them how to have their own "color identity"

i've taught enough people to know that it WILL help, but they also won't discover their own shit bc they'll stick to what i tell them
plus whenever i critique shit, my own bias seeps thru
objective or not it still is MY bias, contradicting THEIR vision

just let ppl experiment and guide them with actual factors vs try and teach them which part of the color wheel is the "good part", who compliments what, etc
like yea man we all know orange wins but you wanna use that purple or whatever? go for it man, go apeshit with that purple

if u legit want your own color identity, just keep using those 5 colors you always use, or always do ms paint blue lineart idk
that's your style, your vision, have fun and do you
don't need to draw like the other 3472432364273842764 artists out there, following the same rules

i used to give people my onions left and right, but the more it goes on, the more you realize it's all becoming the exact same
so i've evolved to sticking with "that clashes" or "it's too dark/ light" vs telling them which exact hues/ values to use, much less giving edits

idk abt y'all, but what i like most abt other artists work are palettes that i just can't use myself/ can't make em work
so tryina teach people to follow my bias is DUMB??
the fuck am i gonna look at then?? there's no need for other artists if i can just look at my own shit

picking colors has no rules, only good vibes
have fun, do whatever
that's it that's the tl;dr
thanks for coming to my ted talk, goodnight
