So I've been thinking a lot about Jerry Krause. He built a team around Jordan that won six titles in eight years when NO ONE was building around shooting guards and no teams were winning like that. And now he's getting trashed in a documentary when he's dead. I dunno man.
He handled Phil phenomenally poorly, but that team was gonna be on fumes (and historically expensive) in '99 if they kept it together one more year. If anything he's guilty of having no tact. Drafting Grant, trading for Pip, swapping Oak for Cartwright—he made so many good moves.
And even the next year or two, had he just kept Brand and Artest and added Chandler, he could have maybe got things going again. But he flew a little too close to the sun pairing Chandler with Curry and then had the terrible luck to lose Jay Williams after one season.
Again, I dunno. I get that guys feel what they feel, but it's a bummer Jerry's not here to tell his side. I, like some others on here, had nothing but good interactions with Jerry. Seem to recall sitting with him at a media dining table and the conversation was all baseball.
