I can finally give you a hard humber for mechanical ventilators in the US.

This should lay to rest the notion that @realDonaldTrump was either slow to react or overreacted.
The people saying that Trump was slow to react are either lying or not informed.

The people saying Trump overreacted don't understand that problem we faced.

We've never had so many people need mechanical ventilators so quickly.
Everything had to be closed so that the number of patients requiring ventilators would not skyrocket.

If people hadn't stayed home, even states where there are very few cases would've been overwhelmed.

We PREVENTED that.
Prior to COVID-19, hospitals in the US had a total of 62,000 full-featured mechanical ventilators. That number hadn't changed in ten years.

Hospitals also had 98,738 old basic-function ventilators that may or may not have worked.
The CDC Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) had an estimated 12,700 BASIC-FUNCTION ventilators for emergency purposes.

We had 173,000 ventilators, of which 110,000 COULD NOT have been operated for sustained periods.
The state stockpiles are unknown, but Trump said in one of his press conferences that we emptied and replenished the Strategic National Stockpile TWICE.

Trump was told that we didn't have the ability to protect the public from COVID-19.

Period.
Instead of panicking, he acted.

THE MODELS DON'T MATTER.

If we hadn't shut down the country, plenty of you reading this would be dead.

That's because there weren't enough ventilators.
Trump knew that he had a short window in which to act.

The EXISTING supplies of ventilators would see us through, AS LONG AS WE MITIGATED AND WENT ON A CRASH
PROGRAM TO MANUFACTURE VENTILATORS.

Got that?
We had enough ventilators if we stayed at home and built more of the bastards.

General Motors learned how to build ventilators in ELEVEN DAYS.

Remember what happened when Trump put travel restrictions on China?
Democrats immediately arranged for people to go out and mingle as much as possible.

Imagine if Trump had issued mitigation guideline BEFORE he did?

Democrats would've killed many thousands of people simply to defy Trump.
So this is what happened:

Trump and @VP Pence are the two most-informed people on the planet.

They knew full well how bad this could get, so they calculate how long they had before they had to issue mitigate guidelines and explain what was happening.
The DANGER was that the Democrats and the press--bu I repeat myself--would allow the spread of the disease simply to show their contempt for Trump.

So Trump DOWNPLAYED the disease while working feverishly behind the scenes.
There's an old joke:

"I don't call dying broke a tragedy; I call it perfect timing."

Trump and Pence timed it perfectly.

Never forget:

Trump was impeached for two non-crimes. His opponents are enemy agents.
No president has endured such headwinds.

But he and Pence will have the last laugh.

So will we, the sane.

END
I explained it perfectly.
