Today’s rant: It upsets me when someone calls me and says “he’s just a ranch horse, so I don’t want anything fancy, just put some steel on him” or “I just want him cowboy shod”. IMO ranch horses have to toughest and most important jobs. They ride in rough country. They ride
slow through a pasture looking for sick calves. They run as hard as they can trying to catch one that needs doctored miles from camp. Don’t get me wrong. Anyone that is trying their best with the information they have to keep one shod I stand with. I may leave a little more foot
on one that’s in the rocks a lot. I may fit them a little tighter, I may a thicker shoe or run a bit bigger nail because those horses need shoes to stay on more than any other horse. But I will never neglect one. I try and go above and beyond because
ranch horses keep the west running. I am. I am nowhere near perfect. I don’t know it all and I’m constantly working on bettering my craft. The better I get the better the off a horse is. So next time you call you shoer to slap some steel on your using horse or if you grab your
hammer and rasp to shoe them yourself. See if the job could get done just 1% better. Horses will appreciate it. Namaste 🙏
