Getting rid of P*rnHub won’t get rid of porn piracy, trafficking or revenge porn, but it will get rid of a low-barrier, uncomplicated source of income for sex workers.

The fixation on P*rnHub resembles the fixation on Backpage by anti-trafficking organizations.

ABSOLUTELY there is a WORLD of criticism that P*rnHub deserves, and absolutely do they desperately need to reform their platform so abusers cannot profit from it, financially or emotionally.

But it’s confusing to me, because P*rnHub is FAR from the only tube site to host such content. Xvideos and xHamster are two popular ones.

There are less legitimate sites that won’t even respond to DMCA takedown requests, let alone revenge porn, like Spankbang and Camwhores.

There are literally THOUSANDS of porn tube sites hosted in foreign countries that do not give a shit what content is uploaded and will not take down a single video for ANY reason.

So why is P*rnHub, specifically and solely, the target of anti-trafficking orgs and advocates?

It seems, to me, that it has something to do with abolishing online sex work altogether. Not unlike the ultimate goal of those who took down Backpage.

I think some harm-reduction strategies that sites like P*rnHub could use are things like only allowing uploads by verified models and studios, having each video be manually reviewed before release, requiring model releases for each performer in a video, etc

And having these things carefully monitored so nothing can slip through the cracks.

To STOP trafficking, revenge porn, and other non-consensual or violent videos altogether is going to mean a lot more than just pulling down a platform or two.

This will mean radically changing our society by eradicating poverty/homelessness; decriminalizing all migration; re-education to quash misogyny, racism, transmisogyny, etc from our culture; acknowledgement that the nuclear family allows the conditions for abuse, and much more

And this is absolutely not to downplay or ignore those whose abuse has been magnified and multiplied by being posted on P*rnHub, just as my defence of Backpage for SWers is not to downplay or ignore those who have been trafficked and advertised there.
