It's not quite so, researchers w children do not suggest that those w/o children are hyperproductive but they fear that they are. That these have parents/partners to care about, their own mental issues, feel overwhelmed by their project/in this situation etc. is not seen as we https://twitter.com/SamCPatrick/status/1252158859764027393
1) consider the others as perfectly working parts in the machine & 2) think of ourselves as imperfect parts.
Let me tell you a few things: A) You are not a machine nor a part of it - nor is any fellow human! B) Talk to your fellows about this stuff - very likely they feel similar
C) Lower the expectations of yourself! You cannot be 100% great - at least not at everything you do, all the time. You must decide when & for what you use your energy. So you have to prioritise for yourself what's most important for you - in life in general & the next few months.
And D) never, not for good or bad, compare yourself with anybody else! Especially not with colleagues whose background & current private situation you hardly know (remember B!?). Don't try walking in their shoes but leave your own foot prints instead! And remember A & sympathise!
Finally, I'm aware that the fear of "the better off others" and their greater productivity is often related to insecure job perspectives (my current contract ends June 2020). But the still HUGE inequalities of the (academic) system are more likely to stop you than these others.
So stop making yourself unhappy in this productivity spiral & rather use your energy instead to focus on yourself, to become a happy & sympathetic person & if there's energy left let's start tackling these inequalities. A good start is in the original RT: Raise your voice!
