fascism isn’t an ideology; it’s the actual phenomena that capitalist ruling classes resort to as capitalism decays & a counter socialist mvmt rises. fascism actually takes on a mixture of prevailing ideas that depend on the certain conditions in that society at that moment
Nazi fascism was influenced largely by existentialism, fin-de-siècle mvmt, anti-semitism, even anti-capitalism. the NSDAP didn’t just appeal to antisemites, it appealed to intellectuals/academics, workers, business owners, lawyers, etc. It was later that Nazism fully unmasked
today in the US we can point out many enticing fascist strains. racism, xenophobia, classless analyses of climate change & the virus, etc. all this to obfuscate class politics. Capitalism is then given permission to catch its breath and kill the socialist movement
this fact is most relevant in recent protests to reopen the economy. the only reason the capitalist class, not just Trump, is so eager to open up again is because of capitalist decay. fascist reaction is the main organizer of these protests, but it rides on more popular notions
the only thread that runs through all historical and present day fascisms is that they are movements in service to capitalism, and their only ideological definition is their lack of coherent ideology
