#COVIDー19 pandemic demonstrates structural weakness our current international arrangements; there will be more interesting debates over the merits/demerits of liberal governance and ideological hegemony as usual but I wonder what the lessons we ought to learn to move forward
Columnist and occasional blogger @GrayConnolly suggested that nation-states ought to have fully developed domestic capacities not only sustain war efforts but effectively endured a pandemic. There's have to be a willingness to smartly use state power to mobilize resources
Another lesson is to observe that health of every national societies is a global concern; the lack of transparency and intransigence would likely result in further deaths and significant complications. In the globe age, information is an essential commodity
The third lesson, do not underestimate the power of localism and social networks. Communities can quickly communicate and coordinate resources as a means to safeguard its members
Fourth lesson, compassionate leadership matters. The Orange Man in the White House have a keen political intuition to play off the resentment off the embittered blue-collar class and the establishment to his advantage and electoral success but this impedes any developments
And the final lesson is remain vigilant and prudent. Southeast Asian democracies were able quick delivery systems to quickly contain and manage the virus because there societies understand it's own vulnerabilities being near the epicenter of several outbreaks of SARS
