There are many different cultures in India.
Let me start with mine.
Bengali lal paar sada saree
It is an integral part of our bengali culture.
With the white symbolising purity and the maroon or red symbolising fertility, the saree is a celebration of the femininity.
Next comes sakha pola:
Shakha is a white bangle made of“conch shell’’and pola is a red coral bangle. As customs have it, one has to wear a pair of each in both the hands.Shakha pola forms an integral part of the bengali wedding trousseau. It is worn by the bride in the wee hours+
of the marriage day amidst rituals and customs.The ceremony is called ‘Dodhi Mongol’. Shakha pola is gifted by the mother of the bride. It is advisable to wear the bangles for a year after marriage and not supposed to break. Shakha is brittle, so it signifies the care that the+
care that the bride has to take to build the new relationship coupled with the warmth of the red colour of the coral. Shakha pola are symbols of marriage and embodies husband’s existential state.
